During the latter part of the nineteenth century, the northern industrial towns were involved in intense competition to construct the most ornate and grandiose civic buildings. This was the era of the Town Hall Wars, when Aldermen would meet in civic chambers to plan buildings with even more columns. even more ornate clock towers, even more decorative panels, than could be found in the neighbouring townships. If only they had access to Photoshop, they could have saved their ratepayers a fortune. This is Morley Town Hall with its unique quadruple clock towers and matching eight stone columns.
