1310 : Chirping Success

The birds are eating me out of house and home. They consume fatballs with such enthusiasm that I am half tempted to try them myself. They might succeed (suck seed!) in making me a bit more chirpy.

1309 : As Dark As Bodegas Should Be

It was a bodega and it was dark and cool - as bodegas should be. Outside the sun beat down on the little town of El Fondo de les Neus. And it found a way to creep into the winery.

1308 : Stop With Impunity

How convenient that "stop" in Spanish means "stop". Just imagine the chaos that would ensue if it meant "carry on with impunity"

1307 : A Sense Of Peace

A classic image of the Alhambra. It was a lovely Spring day and there were hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors - but still there was a sense of peace.

1306 : A Spirituality Wash

Granada Cathedral, as sun-bleached as the buildings surrounding it but with that little bit more gravitas. All that spirituality, I suppose.

1305 : Spain In The Spring

Mojacar, Spain (April 2015)
Blue, yellow, green and a lamppost. Spain in the Spring.

1304 : Kept Out Those Who Should Be Kept Out

Fortress Walls, The Alhambra, Granada, Spain
Castle walls should never be smooth and manicured. They should be well-used; as pock-marked as a teenager with acne. They should show signs that they have served their purpose, done their job, kept those out who should be kept out.

1303 : Cheaper By The Roll

Moorish Palace, Alhambra, Granada, Spain
My first reaction to seeing that intricate plaster-work was amazement. Such craftsmanship, such attention to detail, such perfection. But then I found myself thinking the unthinkable. Could you not buy this stuff on a roll down at the DIY Hypermarket.

1302 : Just Like Walking Up Great Horton Road

The Alhambra, Granada, Spain
When I was a young lad living in Bradford I would often look up at the Alhambra Theatre, at the white stone-domed turret and the paired Corinthian columns, and wonder what was the origin of its strange name. And then we visited Granada and walked around the Alhambra and it was just like walking up Great Horton Road.

1301 : Sun Smoothed Whites And Deep Deep Greens

Granada From The Alhambra, April 2015
The buildings of the Alhambra are breathtaking, but so are the gardens. In one vista you can get the deep greens of the vegetation, the sun smoothed whites of the buildings and the brooding mists of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

1300 : An Empty Bag Full Of Colours

Block Of Residential Flats : Lorca, Spain
The high sun can illuminate bag-full of colours. But it can also bleach out every shade but black and white.

1299 : Artistas

Corrugated Poster, Lorca, Spain (April 2015)

I am inclined to say that this must be as close to "art" as anything I have produced for some time. But that would involve me in trying to decide what "art" was. Let us just say that this is a collection of torn old posters on a corrugated iron door in Lorca, Spain. Artistas.

1298 : As Warm As A Fresh Slice Of Toast

"Stone cold", that's what they say about a cup of tea left too long. "As cold as stone" has described a hundred lips in a hundred songs. But given the Spanish sun and a rich golden hue, stone can be as warm as a fresh slice of toast, warm enough to put a smile on any pair of lips.

1297 : Just A Lock

There is something rather mysterious about locks. Do they keep things in or things out? That dark chasm, framed by rust, is a kind of sentinel. Or there again, it might just be a lock.

1296 : Paint On Paint

The Spanish have a habit of spraying exposed gable ends with some kind of brown plastic foam which makes them look like they have been cauterised during some architectural operation. Occasionally they go to the other extreme and fill in the gap with a painted mural. This example is from the small town of Pinoso and it seemed appropriate that for paint on stone I should use a Photoshop canvas filter.

1295 : Just On The Off- Chance

One of the great delights of digital photography and modern memory cards is that you can click away, just on the off chance. This was a half-torn, half-forgotten poster on a building site in Lorca. I have no idea what it advertised, but who cares. I think the off-chance might just have worked.
