Monday 30 March 2009

Back to Yorkshire and it must have been raining up here whilst we were down south. The woods are muddy again.

Sunday 29 March 2009

We all had a grand time at Sue's. Here she is with Issy.

Saturday 28 March 2009

Amy thoroughly enjoyed her visit to Ewell. Not only did her "Auntie Sue" spoil her, she was also able to race around the Derby course.

Friday 27 March 2009

Moving on from Oxford down to Ewell in Surrey to stay with our friend Sue. The clouds are still majestic but now the backdrop is Epsom Racecourse.

Thursday 26 March 2009

More Oxfordshire seats against green hills and cloudy skies.

Wednesday 25 March 2009

Back up to date, and we are staying with Jane and Edwin in Oxford. Good food and good company, as always.

Tuesday 24 March 2009

Called in on a friend and had to fight through a sea of books to get into his flat. Issy is shocked by the mass of books. I am jealous.

Monday 23 March 2009

Still in Brill in Oxfordshire. This wonderful bench provides a view all over the Oxfordshire countryside.

Sunday 22 March 2009

I'm jumping ahead of myself I know (this wasn't taken until Thursday) but what the hell. This is Brill in Oxfordshire. This week the spring sun is gone, hidden behind some heavy March clouds.

Saturday 21 March 2009

Once you get a bit of sun and the green shoots begin to appear I can't keep out of the woods. Amy longs to walk in the Crem again, but no each morning I call "to the woods".

Friday 20 March 2009

Bright sunlight today. Walking alongside what used to be a pleasant field adjacent to the woods. Now it is been cut up and dug up and ready to give birth to a Business Park that nobody wants and nobody needs.

Thursday 19th March 2009

Spring is still in the air. Found this wonderful old tree stump today. All twisted and curved.

Wednesday, 18 March 2009

Wednesday 18th March 2009

They are logging the woods up the road where I take Amy for a walk. I assume it is some type of thinning process. Or is there a tree disease doing the rounds?

Tuesday 17th March 2009

Spring is here at long last and the flowers are emerging from the road verges. We are lucky around here, the local authority border is just down the road and therefore hundreds of spring bulbs are planted adjacent to the main road. Its a kind of local spin operation - Spring Spin.

Monday 16th March 2009

During our day out in the Dales we walked around Jervaulx Abbey. The ruined Abbey was quite beautiful but so was this wonderful cast-iron seat in the grounds.

Sunday 15th March 2009

Today we drove up to the Dales looking for venues for our Great Day Out With The Cousins (GDOC). The Buck Inn, Thornton Watlass was very pleasant, a possible but not definite for the event in May.

Saturday 14th March 2009

During Friday's trip to Leeds I went to take a look at the condemned Tetley Brewery. The stacks of barrels will soon be a thing of the past.

Friday 13th March 2009

Friday the 13th and a delightful Spring day. Went to Leeds and whilst I waited for my train at Huddersfield Station I decided that the brick and stone was too good to leave be.

Thursday, 12 March 2009

Thursday 12th March 2009

The Fountaine Inn (see yesterday) is in Linton-in-Cravan. After lunch we drove down to the 12th century church. The view from the church was pure Dales.

Wednesday 11th March 2009

With Kathy and Arthur we drove up into the Dales and had lunch at the splendid Fountaine Inn. The ducks had noticed the menu and therefore were doing a runner.

Tuesday 10th March 2009

This is all the clues you need to solve yesterday's quiz. But today's question is "what on earth is Dave doing?"

Monday 9th March 2009

This is one of those "What is it?" photos. Edwin, you should know.

Sunday 8th March 2009

A row of concrete signs near the road. What do they all mean?

Saturday 7th March 2009

The winter sun over north Huddersfield creates black and white shapes in the back gardens.

Friday 6th March 2009

Today I bought a new mobile phone (Nokia 6300) which has quite a decent camera built in. My first shot was of our house - something to accompany the Home phone number setting.

Thursday, 5 March 2009

Thursday 5th March 2009

The sun was really bright today and the sky was bright blue, but there was still frost on the ground. This is Shepherds Thorne Lane in Bradley, Huddersfield.

Wednesday 4th March 2009

It is not just the Business Park that is being rebuilt - so are our toilets. The downstairs toilet is now complete (other than for redecoration), the upstairs one is still a work in progress.

Tuesday 3rd March 2009

The Business Park down the road is being expanded. The reason it is been expanded at a time when many of the original units are becoming vacant following the closure of the occupying companies is down to nothing other than time-lags. At the time the original plans were being drawn up it probably seemed like a good idea. Now it seems a little silly.

Monday 2nd March 2009

The great love of Amy's life is chicken. But the poor thing has never made the connection between her heart's greatest desire and those things that strut about in back yards. She shows them but marginal interest.

Sunday 1st March 2009

Ah, it's March. Spring is here. The snowdrops are blooming. The cuckoos are coughing. That type of thing.

Saturday 28th February 2009

They are painting the pylon at the moment. I always assumed these things were painted battleship grey in order to merge in with the sky. But it seems that it is being painted yellow. Do they know something about global warming that I don't.

Friday 27th February 2009

Friday night and it is Quiz Night and for the last six month or so this has been at The New Spitfire. Note the wooden smoking box - this type of thing has become a feature of pub life in the twenty first century.
