1342 : Borough Market Suspended In Time

For hundreds of years, Borough Market just to the south of London Bridge, has nestled in the shadow of Southwark Cathedral. These days it is a very chic place, full of gourmet food stalls and organic whatnots. But when I took this photograph forty years ago it was still an old fashioned fruit and vegetable market, suspended somewhere between its Victorian past and its twenty-first century future.

We Sepia lovers and Nostalgists do love the old markets and your photo symbolises them perfectly Alan. However, I do appreciate the new markets and their wealth of produce and organic what-nots. Modern Borough Market is superb; I love it.

It is a real classic that you have taken. It is so full of graphic information of the times. The building is amazing to see in the background with all the carts in front. You took a real cool shot sir.
