1266 : My Fair Ladies Clothes Shop

Now it is a double glazing shop, before that it was a travel agents, but what was it when it was given it's name - The Pygmalion? In classical mythology, Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved. A clothes shop, perhaps.

And this from a 2013 Facebook post from someone in Loughborough:

"I wonder what ever happened to the Pygmalion. Especially the mannequin in the window. It's head seemed to be made of chalk and it had the cheesiest grin ever. We used to mimic its smile."

This looks like a bar that is in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. I didn't know we copied the decoration of building so closely to the other side of the world. I will look for a photo.

What an unusual name for a building.

My husband used to buy clothes from the Pygmalion... he was always slightly behind fashion but it was that kind of shop.
