I have a theory : as old negatives degrade, as the emulsion splits and the grain disintegrates, they morph into paintings. Details fade and shapes and lines emerge. Who knows? The Mona Lisa might have started as a smartphone photo taken by some middle aged Yuppi and then slowly degraded into old-masterdom.
