1153 : When Roadworks Were Roadworks

When Roadworks Were Roadworks : 1980 (Alan Burnett)
I can date this old shot fairly accurately from the Clint Eastwood film showing at the Classic Cinema. I have a feeling that it was somewhere near Leicester Square but I am not too sure. They don't dig the roads like this any more : it is all mini mechanical diggers these days.

They dig deep to get to the ground. I would hate to hit that road with that kind of rubble being there. It is a marvelous photo.

It's also from the days when roadworks actually achieved some improvement, rather than being a feint to spend the use-it-or-lose-it budget.
