1129 : Actively Inactive

Alicante : October 2013
All along the garden pathways in Alicante there are seats put out for the old citizens of the town to sit and gossip. Each day in the sun they gather to catch up with old friends, read the newspapers or just nod off. It's a kind of alfresco community association, full of the activity of people being inactive.

I like it. We tend to rush around so much around here that sitting outside is not fashionable. The southern states have more outdoor cafe areas.

A holiday activity of which I heartily approve.

That's me: actively inactive! At least I was. For years I've said I hate exercise, but after my unexpected trip to the hospital in July I realized just how foolish I was. I started slowly and reluctantly but now 10 weeks later I have increased my time and distance considerably and I have to eat crow and say I really do feel better for it. I would never have done it if it weren't for the benches placed conveniently around the park. Even so, at heart I am an actively inactive person by nature. What a confession!
