1007 : Todmorden Gothic

Todmorden Unitarian Church is the second of my three featured Todmorden buildings designed by John Gibson. This astonishing church stands on the hillside overlooking the town and is a Grade 1 listed building. Built in 1865, the Church continued to provide services until 1987 when it closed. Happily, it was brought back into use following its acquisition, and restoration, by the Historic Chapels Trust, in 2008.

Gosh, even more impressive than the town hall. I've been to Todmorden but I obviously didn't have my eyes open as I can't remember this church.

Was in your area the other day (Leeds/Bradford airport - on the way to Aberbeen). Should have taken an aerial photo of something local for you.

Beautiful picture. I quaked when I read that the church had closed but reassured by the reopening. A church like this MUST last forever.
