100310 Leaving Panama

If I am to get through these photographs before the end of the month it is time to leave Panama and its canal behind. I took this photograph as we were leaving the last of the Gatun locks (the massive lock gate can be seen near the top of the picture) and heading into the Caribbean Sea. Heading east from here we had a full day and a half at sea before arriving at our next port of call, the island of CuraƧao.

Oh, don't rush - it's facinating. These huge locks must be really something - I get excited about the ones on the local canal!

I remember going through Suez in 1962 en-route Singapore (people didn't fly so much then); two main memories, the 'bum boats' selling anything and everything (do they have those in Panama) and the sudden influx of flies. Seems a long time ago now.

Very cool...a place I don't know if I will ever get to see, so thanks so much for sharing these with us.
