091208 If I Had A Golden Umbrella

As Amy and I walk around the streets we see several signs of what has been the wettest November on record. Amy navigated her way around this collapsed umbrella this morning. I started singing a song from my youth : "If I had a golden umbrella" which was recorded by Diana Decker over 50 years ago. Amy looked at me as though I was daft.

Another memory jerker - the inside out brolly. Some of the winds in the midlands were fierce - especially when mam took at least three of us to school around 9am. I have a mental picture of her struggling with a big black brolly. Trying to keep the brolly AND her tribe orderly at the same time on a busy street corner was quite a feat. Naturally, she had her priorities in order and deserted the brolly in a homeowners hedge.

I almost thought you were doing your abstract art thing again. In many ways that is a classic photo. I can feel the expression of the person who walked away from that. We are now told that 14 inches of snow will be ours.

I like the symbol of the rain you have had.

I wish we had a health care system like you and many other countries have. It seems like our Republican friends and some Democrats like the money the health care industry sends them to vote no on any changes in our system. So us getting health care is not likely to happen.

I don't recall the song, Alan, but I do recall the inside-out umbrellas.
