090920 The Sound Of Cricket

Someone from the States mentioned the sound of crickets the other day. I was thinking of it when I walked by the cricket field in Mirfield. The outer field is beginning to get its carpet of leaves but the groundsmen where preparing the wicket for the final game of the season.

Hope your day isn't a sticky wicket!

Lovely autumn shot; your trees are much further advanced in colour than down here in Berkshire. Cold up 't north.

Yes the sound of crickets in my house has to be different than the sound of a good cricket game. I remember waking one morning at a place that I was visiting in northern Iowa to the sound of a rugby game. It is rare here in the States but rarer that I didn't have a clue what I was hearing. A lot of grunting and hollering. I have only seen cricket demonstrated or on a pbs show to even know what that game is all about.

Beautiful photographs (plus the sound of cricket/crickets) and The Lad looks scrumptious!

Love this shot, Alan. The formation of the trees looks like a guard of honour!

I've never seen cricket being played.
